A Crazy Play Helps Brookfield Retain the Bell in a Tight Game With Marceline

For the 4th straight year, Brookfield got to ring the bell after the game. Bulldog quarterback Phoenix Jordan had two scores rushing and a passing touchdown in a 22-7 victory over Marceline in a much closer Bell Game than the final score indicates. It was 8-7 Brookfield with just over three minutes left when this crazy play happened:

Brad Boyer with the call on nemopressbox.com. On the postgame interview below, you’ll hear head coach Cory Luke say he thought it was popped out of Parrent’s grasp while the player said he tossed it to Jordan. After stopping Marceline on four downs, the Bulldogs ran two plays to force the Tigers to use their remaining timeouts. On 3rd down, Jordan took off around left end and scored from 15 yards out to clinch the victory.

Marceline got the first score of the game capping an 83 yard drive with a three-yard Cody Rodgers run early in the second quarter. Rodgers finished with 110 yards rushing, but only 22 in the second half. Brookfield took the lead with less than a minute left in the first half on a Jordan to Alex Bennett 15-yard pass, followed by Jordan’s two-point conversion. Jordan finished with 175 yards of total offense and was our Freeman Financial and Insurance Player of the Game.

Brookfield jumps to the 2nd spot in Class 2/District 7 and will have a first round bye next week. The Bulldogs finish the regular season 7-2 and 6-2 in the Grand River Conference. Marceline will also be a two seed in Class 1/District 7. The Tigers are 5-4 and wrap up 5-3 in the GRC. You can hear the broadcast by going to our Game Archive section.
