Cairo Falls In Sectionals

The Cairo Bearcats baseball season ended in the sectional round with a 10-0, five inning loss at Wellington-Napoleon Tuesday. Things looked promising for the Bearcats in the first, with a walk on either side of Zander Holman’s single loading the bases with only one out, but Tigers pitcher Maddex Blystone got a strike out and a fielder’s choice to end the inning. Wellington-Napoleon scored one in the first, then opened the game in the second with five runs, including a two-run single by Wyatt Miller, and a two-run homer by Haden Terrill. Miller’s RBI single in the fifth ended the game. Blystone retired the last 14 batters he faced to get the one-hitter victory, striking out three along the way. He was named our Freeman Financial and Insurance Outstanding Player of the Game.

Cairo’s season ends at 13-9. The Tigers are 15-6, and play at second-ranked St. Elizabeth Wednesday. Find the game on our archive page, and our postgame interview with Cairo Coach Morgan Matthews below.
