Cairo Girls Complete Run Through Top Three Seeds For Salisbury Tournament Crown

The Cairo Lady Cats entered the Salisbury Tournament as the 6 seed and left it Saturday as the champions. Cairo redeemed an early season loss with a 44-38 victory over the Marceline Lady Tigers.

Neither team led by more than a single possession in a first half that had six lead changes and ended in a 20-20 tie. The two combined for four straight lead changing buckets to start the third quarter.

The Lady Cats started to distance themselves early in the fourth.

Cairo built its lead as high as nine before a late run from Marceline got the Lady Tigers as close as three.

Mallori Hankins paced the Lady Cats with 14 points. They win their fourth straight to move to 8-5. Marceline’s Ella Moseley scored a game-high 16. The Lady Tigers fall to 10-3.

In the boys championship game, Glasgow used a stout defensive effort to beat host Salisbury 46-34. Much like the girls game, neither team led by more than three in the first half. Glasgow pulled away by winning the third quarter 13-6 and Salisbury never threatened in the fourth.

Jackson Meyer powered 9-2 Glasgow with 22 points. Bronson Foster added 15. Patrick White and Jake Peiffer had 13 and 11 respectively for 7-4 Salisbury.
