The Lady Trojans led 4-1 going into the 6th inning. Salisbury chipped away for a pair of runs when Julia Sloan and Grace Gebhardt reached on singles and scored on a dropped pop-up behind second base. In the top of the 7th, Camri Wekenborg reached on an error to bring up Ayla King….
The Lady Panthers weren’t done. Sloan was on base thanks to a walk. With two out, Addison Schiltz unloaded….
King and Schiltz were both 2-for-4 with those two-run homers and were our Salisbury Players of the Game, brought to you by Freeman Financial and Insurance.
In the Carrollton 7th, a one-out triple by Gabby Martin brought in a pair of runs to pull the Lady Trojans within one. A big play occured when Ava Shannon hit a ground ball to the pitcher. Gebhardt threw home to start a rundown and Martin was tagged out, but was ruled safe on an interference call resulting in runners on second and third. There was an intentional walk, a sacrifice fly and another free pass prior to Lock’s winning hit.
Carrollton All-State pitcher Jenna Edwards improved to 23-0 on the season. The Lady Trojans are now 25-1 and will host a state quarterfinal game on Saturday. Salisbury’s season ends with a record of 21-6. Here is the postgame interview with Lady Panthers coach Nate King:
