Like the boys basketball team the Eugene baseball team is moving on to the MSHSAA State Championships with a second straight playoff shutout. This time, Chase Richard and Sam Schulte combined to blank Scotland County 5-0 in a quarterfinal matchup in Memphis on Wednesday. Richard did the heavy lifting throwing his max pitches in six innings of work giving up just five hits. He struck out 13 while walking just 1.
Schulte provided all the offense he would need in the bottom of the first inning. Drew Hart was hit by a pitch and Garet Wood walked to bring up their leader in RBI’s….
Brad Boyer with the call on nemopressbox.com. Another hit batsman came around to score in the second inning on a base hit by Wood. In the fifth, the 8th and 9th place batters Nolan Wilbers and Chase Kempker hit singles chasing Tiger starter Logan Buford. After Hart was plunked for the third time in the game, a fielders choice and sacrifice fly produced the final runs. Eugene’s winning streak extends to 11 games and the 24-8 Eagles will have a semifinal matchup with Central State 8 rival Tipton, in Ozark, Monday night at 7:00. Eugene won the regular season contest 3-2.
Scotland County sophomore catcher Kwayde Hamilton went 2-3 at the plate and was named our Freeman Financial and Insurance Player of the Game. Evan Arnold pitched three innings of scoreless relief.
