Eugene’s Drew Hart Overpowers Westran

Eugene’s Drew Hart tossed a gem to end the season of the Westran Hornets 3-0 in sectionals Monday. Hart struck out 14 and surrendered just one baserunner in a complete game shutout effort.

At the plate, Hart was hit by the first pitch of the game and came around to score two batters later.

Hart was named Freeman Financial and Insurance Outstanding Player of the Game. Eugene scored a second run in the first on a Westran error and added another in the second on a passed ball.

Westran starter Cooper Harvey settled in after that, pitching six innings and giving up three runs, one earned, and three walks with 10 punchouts. Harvey was also the lone baserunner allowed by Hart, a two-out single in the first inning.

Gage Adler delivered a scoreless seventh.

Westran’s season ends at 16-8. Eugene advances to the state quarterfinals Wednesday to play at Scotland County.
