Fayette Knocks Off New Franklin

Fayette’s only three hits surrounded an error in the 5th inning and led to a 3-1 victory over New Franklin on Tuesday. The Lady Falcons snapped a seven-game winning streak by their Howard County neighbor.

New Franklin scored the game’s first run when CannaRassa Jennings led off the 4th inning with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Brooklyn Brown. Fayette loaded the bases in the bottom of the 4th with no one out, but Brynn Belstle struck out a pair of batters and got a fly out the wiggle out of trouble.

The Lady Falcons broke through in the next inning. Paige Vroman led off with a single and Whitney Sunderland reached on an error when the umpire ruled that the first baseman bobbled the throw. Brooklyn Wies was the next batter:

Brad Boyer with the call. After Skylar Sunderland struck out, Cayle John delivered the go-ahead run:

Wies then scored on a wild pitch. Skylar Sunderland was our Freeman Financial and Insurance Player of the Game. In the complete-game victory, she struck out 10, walked one, gave up four hits and had three put-outs, including two in the final inning.

Fayette avenged an early season loss to New Franklin and improves to 7-5. We will broadcast the Lady Falcons’ Central State 8 game at Harrisburg on Thursday. The Lady Bulldogs drop to 10-2 and will play three CAC games next week starting with a key game at Community on Monday.
