Fayette Softball Picks Up Emphatic District Quarterfinal Win

The Fayette Lady Falcons picked up an emphatic 11-2 victory over the Salisbury Lady Panthers in a Class 2 District 8 quarterfinal Wednesday.

Salisbury’s Taryn Nanneman scored the game’s first run in the top of the second after an overthrown pickoff attempt by the catcher.

In the bottom half, Fayette’s Brooklyn Wies also scored off a pickoff attempt from the catcher. Mariah Felten then brought in Camryn Ballew on a sac bunt for the lead. The Lady Falcons added four more in the third.

Salisbury got one back in the fourth. Fayette tagged on five more insurance runs in the sixth.

Salisbury got a three-hit night from both Lydea Britt and Gabby Gordon. The Lady Panthers close the season 13-13.

Fayette starter Payton Kindle worked out of a bases loaded jam unscathed in both the first and third innings. She pitched a complete game with two runs, eight hits and five walks allowed while striking out four. She also hit two doubles and was named Freeman Financial and Insurance Outstanding Player of the Game.

Fayette will play Harrisburg for a third time this season in the semifinals Thursday. We’ll have the broadcast on NP2 at 6:45. Harrisburg defeated Lafayette County 8-1 and has won its two contests over Fayette this year 8-1 and 8-2.

The first semifinal will be Carrollton vs Lexington. Lexington knocked off Westran 10-9. Carrollton received a bye as the top seed.
