The Schuyler County Rams are alone atop the Lewis & Clark Conference standings after a 3-2 win over the Salisbury Panthers Monday.
Gage Brownell tossed a complete game, one-hitter while striking out 12. The lone hit for Salisbury was an Austin Cravens double in the top of the fourth. Jake Peiffer, who was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, then scored on a Caleb Sturm sac fly. Cravens gave the Panthers the lead with savvy baserunning.
Schuyler had just taken a 1-0 lead when Cohan Meade scored on a passed ball in the last half inning. The 2-1 score held until the bottom of the sixth. Bryson Wilson led off with a walk and Parker Dabney followed with a single. Elliot Sevits drove in Wilson when he reached on an error that Wilson would’ve scored on regardless of the miscue.
Like Salisbury earlier, Schuyler proceeded to score its go-ahead run on the basepaths.
Caleb Sturm got a big strikeout for Salisbury after he entered with two outs and the bases loaded. Austin Cravens and Jace McAlister combined to hold the Rams to two hits but gave up 12 walks.
Schuyler’s Brownell was also responsible for one of those two hits and he was named the Freeman Financial and Insurance Outstanding Player of the Game. The Rams move to 8-6, 4-0 L&C while Salisbury falls to 9-4, 3-1.
