Hail Mary Saves Kirksville In Pulling Out A Late Victory Over Moberly

Lake Meyer scored on a receiver screen pass from 10 yards out with 23 seconds left to lift Kirksville to a 19-14 victory over Moberly to open NCMC play at Spainhower Field on Friday night. That touchdown wouldn’t have been possible without a 4th and 23 conversion on this improbable play:

Brad Boyer with the call on nemopressbox.com. Meyer had the catch on that deflection, the winning touchdown and caught six balls for 90 yards in the second half to earn the Freeman Financial and Insurance Outstanding Player of the Game award.

Moberly took its only lead of the game with just over three minutes left:

It was the first varsity touchdown pass for sophomore Jarin Tydings, who was in the game in relief of injured quarterback Nolan Samuel. Cael Duree hit the extra point to make it 14-13.

The Spartans trailed 13-0 at halftime. Kirksville executed a 90-yard drive that chewed up much of the first half and was capped by a Logan Martin three-yard run. Tiger linebacker Blake Nesbitt picked off a pass and returned it 65 yards to set up a one-yard sneak by Joel Feeney, but the extra point was blocked by Amare Hawkins.

Kirksville improves to 2-2. Moberly drops to 0-4. The Spartans will host Fulton for homecoming next Friday. You can hear the broadcast on nemopressbox.com. You can hear the full broadcast of this game by going to our Game Archive page.
