Harrisburg and Salisbury went back-and-forth in the second half Friday and Harrisburg’s 36-30 victory came down to the final play.
All three phases were clicking for Salisbury early. Austin Cravens got an interception on the first play of the game and the Panthers turned it into a 12-play scoring drive capped by a 12-yard pass from Patrick White to Cravens. Two minutes later, Salisbury blocked a punt that Gavin Massie recovered in the end zone to go up 12-0.
Harrisburg’s first score came on a 44-yard touchdown run by Caleb Sager with 30 seconds left in the first quarter. The Bulldogs forced two turnovers in the second quarter but couldn’t turn either into points. Harrisburg ultimately took a 14-12 lead into the half with a nine-yard pass from Trace Combs to Bryce Ott with 22 seconds until the break.
The second half had four lead changes. Gavin Binder struck from 28 yards out to put Salisbury up 18-14 with 8:12 left in the third. Combs found Rylee Robinson from seven yards out with 2:08 left in the quarter to put the Bulldogs back on top 22-18.
Binder found the endzone again early in the fourth.
Harrisburg’s response came on the first play following the kickoff.
But again, Gavin Binder was Salisbury’s answer.
The final score came with 1:48 to play.
Trace Combs unofficially completed 14-of-25 passes for 162 yards and three scores. He also rushed for 47 yards on 11 carries including that score. Caleb Sager had 116 rushing yards and Bryce Ott had eight receptions for 106 yards.
