Harrisburg’s offense broke through in the second half for a 14-10 district semifinal win over Westran.
The only points in the first half was a safety that came on an erratic first drive for Harrisburg that ended with a high snap through the back of the endzone on a punt attempt.
Both teams did threaten, though. Harrisburg was stopped on 4th and goal at the one-yard line. Westran got deep into Harrisburg territory twice, but was turned over on downs once and threw an interception in the second instance.
The scoring lull ended at the midway point of the third quarter.
Two-point conversion was good to give the Hornets a 10-0 lead. On the next drive, Harrisburg’s Trace Combs completed a 30-yard pass to Rylee Robinson on 4th and 2. Two plays later, Combs ran it in from one yard out.
In the fourth quarter, Harrisburg struck again with an explosive play.
The Hornets gave themselves a chance by recovering a fumble in the closing minutes. Facing 3rd and 25, Gage Adler kept the season alive by completing an 18-yard pass to Cooper Harvey followed by a 10-yard pass to Treydence Chapman. Westran advanced the ball to Harrisburg’s 38 before the Bulldogs got the stops they needed to close the game.
Harrisburg moves to 7-4 and will take a five-game winning streak into Tipton to face the district top seed next week. Tipton beat Harrisburg 38-32 in Week 5. Westran’s season closes at 8-3.
