Harrisburg’s Fourth Straight Victory is a Central State 8 Win

Harrisburg notched its fourth straight victory and second Central State 8 conference win this season with a 9-7 victory over South Callaway Tuesday.

Both teams scored two runs in the first and were held scoreless in the second. South Callaway was bit by a costly error in the third as a Beth Creamer fly ball to center, which would’ve been the third out, was dropped, allowing three runs to score. Creamer later scored on another error.

Leading 7-3 in the sixth, Harrisburg’s Brette Ackman provided the hit of the night.

South Callaway didn’t go down quietly. Raegan Arrowood hit an RBI double in the seventh. Harrisburg couldn’t field a hard hit grounder to short by Destiny Mealy for the final out of the game. Natalie Price singled in a run then Katlyn Dickinson got the hosts closer.

Stella Meloy grounded out to the pitcher to end the game. Harrisburg had two-hit nights from Ackman, Carly Ott, Kate Cook, Jillian Stidham, Isabelle Demuth and Abbey Clark. Stidham also drew two walks and played a good third base defensively, racking up three straight assists at one point, to be named the Freeman Financial and Insurance Outstanding Player of the Game.

The win moves Harrisburg to 7-7, already surpassing the team win total from last season.
