Higbee put together a seventh inning rally to pick up a 5-3 win at Sturgeon Saturday. CiCi White walked while Sadie Pegelow and Kylie Sinklear both singled to load the bases for Eliona Bruce.
Lauren Spilman added an RBI single. Sturgeon scored one in the bottom of the seventh on a Macy Halliburton double.
Sturgeon opened the scoring in the first when Peyton Dotson reached third on an error then scored on a passed ball. Izabelle Boyd came through in the following inning.
Higbee got out of a massive jam in the third inning. Sturgeon had loaded the bases with nobody out.
Starter Kiersten Rockett then induced a groundout to escape the threat unscathed. The stellar defensive play combined with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate earned Lauren Spilman Freeman Financial and Insurance Outstanding Player of the Game.
Sturgeon’s Aydra Ladyman pitched all seven innings and struck out 15.
