Hillsboro Swings Momentum With A Turnover To Beat Moberly

Hillsboro swung momentum by turning a turnover into a 27-point run to rally past Moberly for a 44-34 season-opening win at Dr. Larry K. Noel-Spartan Stadium on Friday night. The Spartans were threatening to build on a 27-17 lead late in the third quarter when a fumble occured at the Hillsboro 12 yard line. The Hawks proceeded to quickly march 88 yards to cut the lead to four at the end of the third quarter and then added three more fourth quarter scores.

Hillsboro scored the first touchdown of the game, but then Ka’Von Tiger and the Moberly ground game took over. The senior scored on an eight-yard run early in the second and on the next possession broke off this big run:

Tiger added a one-yard plunge to push the Spartans lead to 20-6, before a late Hawks field goal made it 20-9 at halftime. Tiger was our Freeman Financial and Insurance Player of the Game rushing for 177 yards and three touchdowns. The last Moberly score came on a 70-yard touchdown pass from Drew Smothers to Kish Jacobs, Junior in the final half minute.

The Spartans visit Osage in a matchup of district opponents next Friday and we will have the broadcast on nemopressbox.com. You can listen to the Hillsboro-Moberly call by going to the Game Archives section of our website.
