Lane Hackman Dazzles in New Franklin Win Over Cairo

New Franklin’s Lane Hackman was dominant on the mound in an 8-2 win over Cairo Thursday.

Hackman walked just two along with his 15 strikeouts over six innings. He was tagged for one run after giving up a leadoff single in the bottom of the seventh to Aiden Heironimus, who had two of Cairo’s three hits against him. The next two runners reached on an error to set up Josh Zike.

To stunt the momentum, New Franklin proceeded to get an out at first on a dropped third strike then threw out the runner on third trying to score.

New Franklin scored four runs in a first inning in which Cairo committed two costly errors. The Bearcats ended with six errors in total and had at least one in four separate innings. New Franklin scored in all of those innings.

On top of his dominant pitching performance, Hackman hit a double to lead off the game and added an RBI single in the seventh to earn the Freeman Financial and Insurance Outstanding Player of the Game.

Zander Holman pitched the first two innings for Cairo. Clayton Messer delivered the last five. Josh Marshall got the final three outs for New Franklin. The Bulldogs move to 7-5 while Cairo falls to 6-3. Both are now 2-2 in CAC play.
