Fulton celebrated Senior Night by taking a pair of low-scoring games from Moberly.
In the girls game, Kirsten DeFreitas’ shot to tie with two seconds left was no good and the Lady Hornets held on for a 42-38 victory. Fulton’s Ari Connor was fouled on the rebound and tacked on a pair of free throws. Moberly sophomore Jacey Engel hit a three-pointer that made the score 40-38. She also had pulled the Lady Spartans within one possession with an earlier triple in the fourth quarter. Engel finished with four three-pointers and a season-high 12 points to be named our Freeman Financial and Insurance Player of the Game. Olivia Dunwoody led all scorers with 17. The Lady Spartans finish the regular season 4-21 and 1-9 in the NCMC and will play Mexico on their floor in the first round of the district tournament next Tuesday. Audrey Arnold led Fulton with 14. The Lady Hornets improve to 9-15 and 4-6 in the conference.
The third time was the charm for the Fulton boys as they beat Moberly 47-43, after losing two previous matchups. The Spartans scored eight straight points to take a 41-36 lead in the fourth quarter, only to watch Fulton counter with 10 straight and take the win. The Hornets’ Paul Bruner hit back-to-back treys to start the decisive run. He led all scorers with 13 and was named our Freeman Financial and Insurance Player of the Game. The Hornets improve to 10-13. Amar’e Hawkins led Moberly with 12. The Spartans drop back to 13-13. Both teams end up 5-5 in the NCMC. Moberly will host the boys district tournament next week and will open the tournament against Centralia on Monday night at 6:00.
