The Monroe City Panthers held on for an 11-10 win against South Shelby Monday afternoon. Each team scored three runs in the first, and Monroe City added another run in the second, matched by South Shelby’s run on Tucker Elliott’s RBI double in the fourth. The Panthers reclaimed the lead with two in the fourth and two in the fifth, to go up 8-4. The Cardinals sent ten hitters to the plate n the sixth, scoring four to tie the game again. Dylan Ross broke the tie in the bottom of the sixth with his third run of the game.
Ross was our Outstanding Player of the Game, brought to you by Freeman Financial and Insurance. He was two-for-three, also reaching base on a passed ball on a strike out, and by being hit by a pitch, and his two-run double in the first tied the game. The Panthers pushed two more across to go up 11-8. The Cardinals got two in the top of the seventh on a throwing error, and John Schmidt’s RBI single, but a strike out and a ground out left Schmidt stranded at the third as the potential tying run. Blaze Kauble got the win in an inning and a third of relief.
Monroe City is 5-6, and hosts Macon Tuesday. South Shelby is 2-9, and hosts MMA Wednesday. Find the game on our archive page, and our postgame interviews with the coaches below.
