Montgomery County Blanks Mark Twain 38-0 on Senior Night

Montgomery County put up 22 points in the first half and cruised to a 38-0 road win over Mark Twain on senior night.

After forcing a quick three-and-out, the Wildcats marched 49 yards down the field, capping the drive with a Jackson Benny touchdown on a jet sweep. Benny, typically the backup quarterback, also added the two-point conversion to give Montgomery County an early 8-0 lead.

The defense came up big again, stopping Mark Twain on fourth down at their own seven-yard line. Junior Lade McCurdy then finished off a 94-yard scoring drive with a rushing touchdown. Quarterback Adrian Combs ran in the conversion to extend the lead to 16-0.

Combs later connected with Benny for a red-zone touchdown pass to close out the first half.

Despite forcing three turnovers, including two interceptions by freshman Logan Kerns, Mark Twain was unable to capitalize or find the end zone.

Combs added another score in the second half, powering in on a quarterback draw to push the lead to 30-0. Chase Queathem sealed the Wildcats’ second road win of the season with a rushing touchdown.
With the victory, Montgomery County improved to 4-2 on the year.

Mark Twain has now scored just 26 points over their last five games, a stretch that includes three shutout losses. The Tigers fall to 1-5 on the season.

Next week, Mark Twain will travel to North Callaway, while Montgomery County will return home to host Bowling Green. Find our postgame interview with Montgomery County coach Matt Smith below:
