The Montgomery County Lady Wildcats are in the driver’s seat to both win a conference championship and grab the one-seed in districts following a comeback 7-6 victory over the North Callaway Ladybirds Thursday.
North Callaway led 6-1 going into the bottom of the fifth. Montgomery got two runs in that frame off a double by Sam Turner. With one out in the sixth, Skylar Bethmann singled and Hailey Meyer walked to set up Gracie Cobb.
Cobb’s 3-for-3 night earned her Freeman Financial and Insurance Outstanding Player of the Game. Following Cobb, Reese Hill singled to load the bases. That’s when Montgomery took the lead on a costly North Callaway error.
Hill shut the door in the top of the seventh for the complete game victory. She struck out eight batters.
North Callaway’s Megan Schmidt had a two-run double and Kymorie Myers an RBI double as part of a four-run second inning. Kenley Wessel put Montgomery on the board in the fourth.
North Callaway responded, though, when returning NEMO Pressbox Star Myers came through again in the following frame.
Schmidt pitched all six innings for North Callaway and struck out five. The Ladybirds fall to 12-6 overall and take their first conference loss. Montgomery moves to 6-0 in the EMO and 16-1 overall.
