North Callaway Holds Off Montgomery County to Move to 3-0

Jaiden Galbreath carried the ball 29 times for 198 yards and four touchdowns and the North Callaway Thunderbirds held off Montgomery County 30-18 Friday. Galbreath’s first score was from two yards out with three minutes left in the first quarter. North Callaway’s next points came from the defense.

That was Wyatt Haden with the pick six. The Thunderbirds extended the lead to 18-0 with another two-yard scoring run by Galbreath early in the third quarter. Montgomery County got on the board with 7:44 left in the third on a five-yard touchdown run by Jacob Hogue. Galbreath responded on the next drive with a 54-yard TD run but Montgomery scored the next two touchdowns to make it a one-possession game (24-yard pass from Adrian Combs to Mac Farrar and one-yard run by Combs).

Both defenses stood tall throughout the fourth. Montgomery County got the ball back with two minutes left but the drive ended on a Tristan Petty interception. Galbreath effectively ended the game a minute later.

North Callaway’s defense had four interceptions with Collin Moore collecting two of them. The Thunderbirds move to 3-0 after a 2-8 season last year. Montgomery County falls to 0-3.
