North Shelby Uses Offensive Onslaught For First Conference Win

The North Shelby Raiders came to life at the plate in a 23-5, five-inning victory over the Westran Hornets Monday. North Shelby scored 14 runs in the fifth inning alone.

Kale Pollard had three hits. Isaac Berry and Grady Gander both had two. Every batter in the lineup drove in at least one run.

The Raiders benefited from Westran free passes and defensive miscues early. North Shelby scored three runs in the second and six in the third. All nine runs were unearned. In total, Westran walked 10 batters, committed seven errors and surrendered 15 unearned runs.

The Hornets started chipping away at their big deficit in the bottom of the third.

Westran scored all five of its runs in that frame. Cooper Harvey finished the game 2-for-3.

North Shelby freshman Ty Bacon reached his pitch count after 4 1/3 innings. He struck out seven and walked one. Berry delivered the final two outs. The Raiders pick up their first L&C win and move to 4-3 overall. Westran falls to 6-4, 1-1 L&C.
