Moberly went 0-6 in the red zone and lost at Osage 28-7, in the Class 3/District 4 championship game on Friday night. The first failure was the most costly when the Indians’ Ethan Wall returned an interception 85 yards for a touchdown. The Spartans took their second possession deep into Osage territory before a fumble at the 14. In their best drive of the game, the Indians went 86 yards capped by a one-yard Brock Arrowood plunge to make it 14-0. Moberly had a 3rd first half turnover on a fumble at the 46. When Arrowood scored on a 13-yard run it gave Osage 21 points on three Spartan turnovers and that was the halftime score.
Ethan Land opened the second half with a 75-yard kickoff return, but a couple dropped snaps blew up that chance and Moberly turned the ball over on downs. Kyler Fanning intercepted a pass to give the Spartans another chance deep in Osage territory, but they were turned away again. Moberly turned the ball over on downs four times in the second half. The one time the Spartans got to the endzone they were far from the red zone:
Brad Boyer with the call on nemopressbox.com. After a failed onside kick, Arrowood scored from 39 yards out for his third touchdown of the game. Moberly only punted one time in the game. Fanning was named our Freeman Financial and Insurance Player of the Game for Moberly.
Osage improves to 9-2 and will play at St. Clair in the state quarterfinals next Saturday. The Spartans finish the season with a record of 6-6. You can hear the full broadcast by going to the Game Archive section of our website.
