Salisbury Controls Second Half in District Win Over Marceline

The Salisbury Panthers picked up a 24-13 district win over the Marceline Tigers Friday night.

Marceline scored on its opening drive.

Salisbury responded early in the second quarter.

Late in the first half, a fake punt set the tone for Salisbury’s closing drive.

After the fake, the Panthers took a false start penalty but followed with a 20-yard pass from Patrick White to Gavin Harmon. The two connected again from six yards out on the next play for the go-ahead score.

Cody Rodgers ran in another touchdown for Marceline on the first drive of the second half, but the score remained 14-13 when the Tigers failed on the two-point try.

The tide turned for good with 3:43 left in the third when Salisbury downed a punt on Marceline’s 1 yard line and cashed in on it with a safety. Patrick White had a rushing touchdown three minutes later. He unofficially threw for 115 yards and a score. On special teams, he pinned two punts inside the five yard line. He was named the Freeman Financial and Insurance Outstanding Player of the Game.

Brayden White had 25 carries for 130 yards and a touchdown. Gavin Binder had five receptions for 80 yards, five carries for 37 yards and two interceptions.

Marceline’s Rodgers, playing at quarterback in place of the injured Dax Thomas, ran 29 times for 171 yards. The Tigers close their season at 4-6. 8-2 Salisbury plays at district top seed Tipton in the semifinals.
