Salisbury Girls Win At Least Share of Conference Title, Boys Stay in Hunt

The Salisbury girls clinched at least a share of the Lewis & Clark Conference title while the boys kept themselves alive to do the same with wins over Schuyler County Friday.

Salisbury notched a 51-44 victory on the boys side. Outside of the game’s first points, the Panthers didn’t trail until early in the fourth quarter.

Schuyler had tied it four times, including a deadlock at 20 at halftime, before finally breaking through. Salisbury tied the game again with a free throw, then Tyson Droste struck once more.

Salisbury’s Jake Peiffer provided the response.

Austin Cravens had the final big shot.

That gave Salisbury a 42-40 lead with two minutes left and the Panthers maintained the lead from there. Both Peiffer and Cravens finished with 16 points. Peiffer scored 11 of those in the fourth quarter and went 4-for-4 from the free throw line.

Gage Brownell put in a game-high 17 points for Schuyler. Mason Windy added 11.

Salisbury now needs Schuyler to beat Westran Tuesday for a share of the conference title. Westran has already clinched at least a share itself.

The Salisbury girls coasted to a 72-28 win.

Tori Ricketts had a game-high 19 points. Brynn Bachtel chipped in 15. Naomi Newland led Schuyler County with 12.

Westran and Paris remain in contention to get a share of the L&C crown. Westran needs a victory over Schuyler County Tuesday while Paris has to beat Knox County next Friday.
