Moberly softball erased an early deficit but Salisbury still pulled out a 9-7 victory Wednesday.
Ayla King reached base on a dropped third strike to start the bottom of the first and Salisbury instantly cashed in.
King got to third base on two of her five stolen bases for the night. Brynn Bachtel added an RBI double and Gabby Gordon an RBI single in the first. Salisbury added two more in the second, including an RBI double from King, to go up 5-0. Moberly erased that deficit in one inning.
10 batters came to the plate in that frame and it included a stretch of five straight singles. The Lady Spartans took a brief lead in the fourth thanks to an RBI double from Evelyn Freeman, who reached base in all four of her ABs and had three hits.
Salisbury regained the advantage in the bottom half.
Savvy baserunning from Bachtel allowed her to score the go-ahead run. She was named the Freeman Financial and Insurance Outstanding Player of the Game. Morgan Sellers hit an RBI single three batters later and the Lady Panthers pushed another run across in the sixth.
Moberly’s Brynn Goins had an RBI single in the seventh. Freshman Dana Gibbs went 2-for-3 with a triple and a walk. Mia Faught struck out 12 batters in six innings. Quynn Fischer got the win for Salisbury.
