The Scotland County Tigers scored on every offensive drive en route to a 40-30 win over the Harrisburg Bulldogs Friday.
Their first drive ended on a seven yard touchdown run by Carter Clatt three minutes into the game. Harrisburg came back with a 25-yard touchdown pass from Kadyn Weldon to Rylee Robinson just over two minutes later.
Scotland proceeded to go on a 15-play drive that took eight minutes off the clock, capped by a two-yard rushing score from quarterback Dane Blessing. Harrisburg’s response came on just two plays.
Scotland’s next score came on 4th down after another lengthy drive.
Levi Stott caught that pass. Harrisburg marched to Scotland’s 5 late in the first half but the Tigers got a big defensive stop to prevent another lead change. They carried that momentum over by forcing Harrisburg into a three-and-out to start the third quarter.
The Tigers got a two-yard touchdown run by Kwayde Hamilton with 6:21 to go in the third and Blessing found him through the air later in the quarter.
Caleb Nichols played a big role in keeping Harrisburg in the game.
Nichols had five carries for 70 yards on that drive and unofficially finished with 200 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
Scotland County went up 10 after Blessing found Stott in the endzone for a second time with 3:14 left, then an interception by Blessing on Harrisburg’s next drive effectively sealed the win.
Kamdyn Forest and Carter Clatt each had 21 carries. Forest concluded with 148 rushing yards and Clatt with 126. Forest was named the Freeman Financial and Insurance Outstanding Player of the Game. Dane Blessing went 7-of-9 passing for 113 yards and had nine rushes for 47 yards.
