South Callaway Controls Harrisburg For Another Central State 8 Win

South Callaway controlled for much of the contest and moved to 2-0 in Central State 8 play with a 32-22 win over Harrisburg Friday.

Despite a one-handed interception by South Callaway’s Kolton Adrian on the first drive of the game, it was the Bulldogs of Harrisburg that struck first.

South Callaway tied with 13 seconds left in the first on a five-yard touchdown run by Graden Pontius. Harrisburg recaptured the lead on a four-yard run by Caleb Sager with 9:11 to go in the first half but it was all South Callaway from there. Ethan Munford ran in two scores in the second quarter. While running and controlling clock, South Callaway got a big insurance score early in the fourth.

Trace Combs found Rylee Robinson from 11 yards out with 8:18 remaining. South Callaway picked up a late interception, one of four turnovers forced, to stunt any possible comeback attempt.

Munford unofficially ran for 77 yards on 17 carries along with the two scores to be named the Freeman Financial and Insurance Outstanding Player of the Game. Pontius ran for 110 yards on 21 carries. Harrisburg’s Sager had 23 carries for 128 yards as well as a 20 yard reception. Combs had 92 yards passing and 75 yards rushing.

South Callaway has won four straight after starting the season 0-2. Harrisburg falls to 2-4.
