Statement From Moberly Schools After An Accident Claims The Life Of A Middle School Teacher

Here is a statement from Moberly Superintendent Cristina Wright, after an accident that claimed the life of one of the district’s Middle School teachers on Thursday night:

“It is with profound sadness that we share difficult news with you. On the evening of January 23, one of our middle school teachers, Mrs. Ashley Apel, was tragically killed in a car accident.

The loss of Mrs. Apel is a devastating blow to our staff, students, and families. She made a significant impact on the lives of so many, and she will be deeply missed. Administrators and our Crisis Team shared news of Mrs. Apel’s passing with middle school students today.

In addition to Mrs. Apel’s passing, three other teachers were injured in the accident and are currently receiving medical care. Our thoughts are with them and their families during this challenging time.

This news will continue to affect our students and staff deeply. Today, and in the days ahead, we have counseling services available for anyone who needs support as we process this tragedy and begin to heal together as a community. In addition, several community organizations and churches have offered free supportive services. If you are a parent of a child who needs immediate assistance or support, please contact Moberly School District Central Office at 660-269-2600.”

Sincerely,

Superintendent Cristina Wright
