Solid pitching from Emelia Flores and Clara Uhlmeyer along with timely hitting was enough for North Shelby to pull out a 5-1 win over Cairo Tuesday.
With two outs in the fourth, the Lady Raiders had two hits, both from Aubri Luckett, and 10 strikeouts. They proceeded to put together three straight hits for the lead.
North Shelby had a stretch of four straight hits and added three insurance runs in the sixth.
Flores pitched five innings and gave up one run, three hits, two walks and struck out three. She also had an RBI single in the sixth to be named the Freeman Financial and Insurance Outstanding Player of the Game.
Uhlmeyer came in to pitch the final two innings and struck out four. She provided the other two sixth inning insurance runs with a single.
Despite giving up 10 hits, Cairo starter Olivia Cross struck out 16 batters over six innings.
The Lady Cats’ lone run came in the third after they loaded the bases with nobody out but the next two popped out before Jaycee David drew a walk.
Cairo has a big conference game with Glasgow coming Thursday. North Shelby hosts Clark County that same night. Both Cairo and North host their home tournaments this weekend.
