Truman State University men’s basketball coach Jeff Horner will not return next season. A statement from the University says “The University and Horner have agreed to part ways and a national search for his successor will begin immediately.”
Horner led the Bulldogs for seven seasons, including a stretch from 2020-22 that saw his teams qualify for the NCAA Tournament three times. The 2021 team made it to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight, before a narrow loss to Flagler, Florida. The 2020 team won the GLVC Tournament Championship, but the NCAA Tournament was canceled due to the start of the COVID pandemic.
Horner was twice named the GLVC Coach of the Year. He finishes with a Truman record of 121-78.
Assistant Coach Vince Grier will serve as interim head coach, overseeing day-to-day operations until a new head coach is appointed.
